Voluntary Work and Work Experience

E-mail

Voluntary work and work experience can be a good way to help you:

  • find out what type of work or course suits you
  • gain experience while you study, are seeking paid employment or exploring a career change
  • gain experience working for causes that you are interested in, or
  • assist in creating change in areas that are important to you.

Voluntary work can assist you to build new skills, meet new people and add variety to your work experience. Furthermore it provides you with an opportunity to understand what supports and accommodations may be required to support you in an employment setting.

When a host employer accepts a work experience person, the person is not covered under the host employer's work cover. Remember that there are organisations that offer personal accident insurance policies for voluntary workers undertaking work experience. There are various policy periods and can include:

  • 15 days work over 3 months
  • 30 days work over 6 months
  • Unlimited days work over 3, 6 or 9 months

Contact an insurance office to obtain a quote that is tailored to suit your situation. IC Frith & Associates Insurance Brokers offer Work Experience Insurance:
