Mobility Allowance - Centrelink

The Centrelink Mobility Allowance provides help with the extra costs of travel to eligible people with a disability who are unable to use public transport without substantial assistance when travelling to and from their home for the following activities:

  • paid employment
  • voluntary work for a charitable, welfare or community organisation on a continuing basis
  • vocational training
  • looking for work

ACT Taxi Subsidy Scheme

The ACT Taxi Subsidy Scheme (TSS) assists residents of the ACT who have a severe disability that prevents them using public transport.

Members of the Scheme receive vouchers which subsidise the cost of Taxi Transport. Vouchers are used towards the partial cost of the taxi fare.

Members approved for the 50% subsidy are eligible for a maximum subsidy of up to $17.00 per trip.

Members who are confined to a wheelchair and who can only use a wheelchair accessible taxi are eligible for a maximum subsidy of 75%, up to $26.00 per trip. Approved individuals who use a wheelchair will also have the loading and unloading portion of the fare paid for by the Government through payment of a Lift Fee.

Eligible applicants will be granted either General Access (initial period of three years) or Temporary Access (for a limited period of 6 or 12 months). Travel can also be undertaken in the ACT or interstate.

Individuals seeking to join the Taxi Subsidy Scheme need to complete an application form. Application forms are available online at:
